The final installment of the workshop series. She was one of my favorite models of the day. I just had to step back and watch her be…my absolute favorite way to photograph.

Just catching up on my workshop work. I love maternity. These mommies-to-be are always so calm and peaceful…and gorgeous. I know, for certain, I did not look this good at 30+ weeks. Sorry for the lack of posting lately. These warm days have had us itching for spring, and we’ve been taking advantage of them!

We cut it close! This maternity session has been booked for a looong time, and I was so excited to meet up with this mommy-to-be and document this little miracle. It was scheduled and re-scheduled, and storms threatened to force us to re-schedule yet again on Tuesday. That’s when I got the call saying her doctor wanted the baby out sooner rather than later and she had a C-section scheduled for today! So we toughed it out through the rediculously hot and muggy weather (for those of you who know me…I don’t handle heat very well
).
But we had a great time and I am so happy she made time for our little shoot when I’m sure she had plenty on her mind with her baby coming a tad earlier than planned. Good luck today! I cannot wait to meet your little one next week!
spring what to wear
Posted on May 7, 2010
Well, this has been on my ‘to do’ list since…oohh….I don’t know…January-ish? Which is why it is the Spring What to Wear guide…even though its May. Sigh…
Anyway, its finally up and that’s all that matters. Probably one of the most frequently asked question from clients is “what should we wear?!” Here ya go! Here are some great examples of beautifully coordinated outfits. I want my sessions to capture the essence of your family. And I know there is SO much more to you than kakhis and white button downs! It’s a great idea to bring 2 sets of outfits to your session. One can be more dressy, and the other one can be more comfy/casual.
So…right behind comfort comes the next most important factor in your session wardrobe ~ layers!! Layer layer layer! Layers add so much fun and oomph to an outfit! This also lets us change up the look of your family/kiddos quickly by just adding or removing a layer. Layers can be jackets, vests, ties, hats, leggings, fun funky jewelry, etc.) Layering also lets you add lots of texture and interest to your clothing! And that always makes for a good photo
.
Another thing I encourage is COLOR! Don’t shy away from it! Color adds so much interest and fun to your photos! Notice how the images below have a color “theme”…everything goes together, but they’re not all the same shade of red tshirts/polos/button downs.
The final touch needs to be something that screams YOU! Something fun and interesting. Think cool shoes, boots, sunglasses, hats, or a fun tshirt under a jacket.
Now, I do want to add that there is a way to choose white as your main color, and not look like something out of awkward family photos. You just need to make sure you add another color to make things pop. For isntance, if you’ve got mom and little sister in cute summery white dresses, add some fun turqois jewelry or shoes!

Well, almost babies. It seems like I’m doing tons of maternity sessions lately! I love it because that means there will soon be adorable little babies to fulfill my baby craving
. Kiera & Josh were gifted my Baby Cakes package for their baby shower. So you will be seeing a lot of them on the blog this year. This is the sweetest couple and they are filling to the brim with excitement and anticipation for the arrival of their baby boy! We did this session in my home on Friday morning and my amazing neighbor came over to babysit ~ Hailey and our newest addition, a gorgeous 2 year old husky named Tank. Unfortunately, both of them were hyped up beyond belief. You would have thought I fed them Mountain Dew for breakfast! Thank you Shannon ~ you are a Godsend! And Josh almost snuck out with Tank
.
Thank you for hanging out with me you two! I can’t wait to meet your baby boy and follow your family as it grows throughout this next year!

Just a few sneak peeks from Saturday’s maternity session. I got to photograph this little family over the summer. So when mom told me she was expecting I was thrilled to be able to do her maternity session! And I so look forward to meeting their sweet baby girl! Check out the tats…they have baby soon to be big brother’s name tattooed (tattooed? is that right? anyway…) in Japanese and when little sister arrives her name will be joining. Love it!
PS…have you voted for AMP’s 2009 Photo of the Year yet?! I am speechless that there are almost 500 votes! And it hasn’t even been a week yet! You guys rock
. We’ve got some ties…#1 and #5 are duking it out for the top spot!

It’s been almost 18 months since we welcomed our beautiful, amazing daughter into this world. I think back to those few weeks before she was born and remember sitting on the couch, on bed rest per doctor’s orders, watching TLC and playing solitare just waiting to meet this newest member of our family. That is such an exciting, emotional time in a couple’s life. Every child is special, of course, but something about that first baby just flutters in your heart and feels like nothing else on this earth. I love love LOVE that my job connects me to new families. I love that I get to be a part of capturing that time in their life that they will never get back. That time that passes so quickly ~ and I get to experience it with them. It was an honor to get to be a part of this family’s memories. This mommy is due in February and she is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. When she talks about her baby girl her face lights up with the biggest smile. And baby girl’s soon to be daddy could not be more proud…you two will make amazing parents. I cannot wait to see your beautiful baby!
