wall displays part 2 | Peoria, IL family photographer
Posted on September 28, 2010
My wall display inspiration posts are back with part 2! The first wall display inspiration post showed one of my favorite displays we have up in our house, as well as the photo wallpaper I’m currently giddy about.
This time I’m going to show you an unfinished project going on in our guest bedroom. Right now most of the images that fill the frames are just stand-ins until I figure out what I really want to go in them. Where did this beautiful idea come from? I have three words for you my friends Young. House. Love. Do yourself a favor and cozy up with your laptop and plan to spend a few hours oohing and aahing over their step by step account of the renovation of their house. Amazing.
I am in the process of collecting photos of the way my clients are displaying their portraits in their homes. I love to see how my work comes to life on the walls of its family’s home! If you’re a past client and would like to show me how you’ve displayed your portraits from our session, click on the contact me button at the top of the blog to send me an email. I would love to hear from you!
Another clustery display I love, relating to last week’s display idea, from Apartment Therapy. Yum!
And my last idea this time comes from Ria Lee Photography. This is her studio, but I can so see this hanging up in any kiddos bedroom. How fun is that?!

As I edit my sessions, I often zoom in on the eyes to check the focus. As I zoomed in on this one, I saw this and it made me smile. Not sure why, it’s gotta be a little strange to have someone hovering over you for an extended period of time with a big black box in your face…but mom and dad are behind me hovering as well, so it must be ok. Right?
random Sundays | Peoria IL lifestyle photographer

It was a cloudy Sunday morning, and the light was perfect in the kitchen. She insisted on wearing that skirt and just looked too cute. So I grabbed my camera and we just watched her play. I cannot encourage you enough to go out and photograph those very ordinary moments.

This past weekend I was getting ready to blog this little girl’s sneak peek from her 5 month session. After looking back, I could not believe I hadn’t posted more of her newborn session! Better late than never right?!
It’s just a backpack | Peoria, IL photographer

It’s just a little backpack. Tinkerbell of course. She adores it. It terrifies me. Some day…a day right around the corner…she is going to fill that up with whatever a little kiddo needs to take to school with her and head out the door, onto the bus, and into a whole new world that I am not a part of. Ouch.
Yes…I am choosing to ignore the fact that she’s already technically in school. But I really don’t count 1 day a week of 2 year old pre-school
. I’m allowed.

With some major storms threatening our pretty morning, I met up with this beautiful family again. This is one lucky little girl. She has no idea yet how much mom and dad love her, but she is their entire world. As it should be.

A question I am asked pretty regularly by my clients is how can we display our prints?! And if a client doesn’t ask me this question, I ask them to start thinking about it. I know that you’ve all got a shoebox full hard drive full of pictures you’ve taken over the years just collecting dust. And what about those gorgeous prints you ordered from your photo shoot?! I heard someone say a while back that they “heard” it was tacky to have pictures of yourself up in your home. WHAT?!?!? I hope whoever said that never comes to my house…because 98% of the artwork gracing our walls is of us! When something like photography is so important to our family, there’s no way we wouldn’t have it all over our walls!
So, every now and then I thought it would be helfpul to pass along some inspiration to you. I’m going to start out with my current favorite wall display in our house:
I just love it!! This was inspired by a page from a PB Teen catalogue . Let’s just stop for a second and talk about my possibly unhealthy obsession with all things Pottery Barn. I just adore it. Period. So I stumbled across these little beauties from PB Teen. How cute are they?!
I LOVE the idea of big prints! I have vowed to never print anything smaller than 11×14 for my own home…and I challenge all of you to do the same. In the first 2 photos, those are each 11×14 prints, without mats. The space between the windows is 103″. I’ve also got 16×20′s, 20×20′s, 30×40′s and more hanging around my house and I plan on showing you in the future, so stay tuned
!
Speaking of going big….when we are lucky enough to have a playroom for the kiddos…this is a non-negotiable must-have!
I mean….wow…

the first day | Peoria, IL photographer

So here we are. She started school today. Totally, completely unbelievable. We woke up early this morning, ate a good, brain-healthy breakfast, packed up her little bag and were out the door. I am your typical mom…this was much harder on me than it was on her. We walked up to the building, in the door…and had to make a stop at the super cool water fountain. We happily walked through the classroom doors, hung up her little bag, washed our hands, and she immediately sat down at a table and started to work on a puzzle. I got down on her level, got a big hug and kiss and said “mommy has to go bye bye but I’ll come get you when you’re done with school!” She smiled at me and went back to her puzzle. I turned around to leave…then she started crying.
We’re talking seriously distraught crying. And who can blame her?! She’s been at home with her mommy for the past 2 years! She has no idea who this strange lady is, or what this strange room is! She has no idea who these other kids are who are also clinging to their parents! She has no idea if I’m ever coming back to pick her up, or if I’m dropping her off for good! Oh Lord…now I’m crying. But…they always tell you not to drag out the goodbyes, it just makes it worse. So I gave her one more hug and said I love you and left. I could still hear her crying in the hallway
. Not a cool way to start the morning.
But, as I Justin knew it would be, when I went to pick her up she was all smiles. Her teacher told me that she said she didn’t want to go home. I guess that’s a good sign
. I went in to pick her up and she sat on her little carpet square until her teacher told her she could get up. She’s such a good little pre-schooler

holiday cards are here! | Peoria, IL photographer
Posted on September 13, 2010
Okay, I know it seems a tad early to be talking about the holidays. And don’t be mad at me…I, too, despise seeing Christmas tree displays up at the mall before Halloween (my favorite holiday of all time by the way!). However, we need to face the reality that the holidays will be here before we know it. And if beautiful family portraits for your holiday cards are on your list of things to do, we need to get moving! My available sessions are dwindling by the day, and if you want holiday cards, your session needs to happen before November 20. You can check out my 2010 holiday card lineup below, there are some gorgeous cards! These are just some of them, we do have more to work with to design a card just for you. So, think about the holidays just long enough to book your session and place your card order, and then you can forget about it until November!
PS ~ from now until November 20, if you book your session and purchase at least one set of holiday cards, you will receive a free set!

It is always such a special thing when a family invites me into their home to photograph the incredible experience of being home with their brand new baby. It is such an emotional time that, as we all know, goes by far too quickly. I am honored beyond words to be able to capture this time forever. This little newbie happens to be extra special as he is the newest member to our family. Our nephew, Brady Matthew. Our own baby girl was happy to give up the title of the baby of the family to Baby Brady as he is known around here.
