We cut it close! This maternity session has been booked for a looong time, and I was so excited to meet up with this mommy-to-be and document this little miracle. It was scheduled and re-scheduled, and storms threatened to force us to re-schedule yet again on Tuesday. That’s when I got the call saying her doctor wanted the baby out sooner rather than later and she had a C-section scheduled for today! So we toughed it out through the rediculously hot and muggy weather (for those of you who know me…I don’t handle heat very well :) ).

But we had a great time and I am so happy she made time for our little shoot when I’m sure she had plenty on her mind with her baby coming a tad earlier than planned. Good luck today! I cannot wait to meet your little one next week!

Yesterday afternoon I was working in my office when I looked over and saw this…

Now a ~ the light was just beautiful, so a pile of laundry could have been sitting on that table and I still would have taken a picture :) . And 2 ~ how stinkin cute is she?! I mean…the complete and utter concentration on her face…her little tongue sticking out as she focuses on drawing the perfect circle. And when she realized I had my camera in front of my face and threw her head back ~ really mom? more pictures? ;) We are so blessed. We love you punko.

Here’s a little more from Andy’s senior session. Remember the turkey incident from not too long ago? Well, I think I’ve stopped shaking and am almost ready to go back out into the front yard :) .

Tonight I am short on words. So I’ll just give you lots of pictures. How’s that?

I got the honor of playing with these two handsome brothers a while ago and I couldn’t be more in love with them! They are the most charming little guys :) . Big brother took a little bit longer to warm up to me and my big black camera, but eventually he did (as they all do!).

23 months {Peoria, IL photographer}

Posted on May 14, 2010

Happy 23 months baby girl! The photos above are from a very typical morning spent together. I recently went through a spring cleaning frenzy so we spent a lot of time upstairs going through every single inch of every room up there. During that time we discovered the box of VHS tapes hidden away in the guest room closet. And thus began your obsession with The Lion King. Which, for now, I’m not wanting to hide my head under a pillow when you want to watch it…but give it time. I usually crack after the 200th viewing or so ;) .

You also discovered how much fun it is to jump on the bed…leading to your first face plant off the bed. I’m sure not your last.

I love that you still love your pink blanket…your “nigh nigh”. I can’t remember who just said this, but someone said you’re going to be taking that thing with you to college…and I hope you do.

You’re even more obsessed with anything and everything “outide”. Even when its cold, rainy and icky out, you want to be outside exploring. Wait til you see what we’re getting you for your birthday!!

I feel like I need to explain the first and second pictures up there. Those are the cute little necklaces you love to play with. you love to put them around your neck one by one and name the color (pretty much everything is blue yellow ~ or boo yeyow ;) ) and then try to take them off to do it all over again. The problem is…they get stuck. And so far you have not been blessed with the ‘patience’ gene. Therefore, you pull at them getting more frustrated by the second, the necklaces getting more and more tangled, until your daddy or I come to the rescue. On this day, we could not save the yellow necklace. So the first image above is you saying “oh no!” and the second one is you saying “broke!” I really will have to catch that on video one of these days because its the cutest thing in the world!

You will be 2 next month. How on earth did that happen?

Well folks, the feedback from my first “what to wear” post was so positive, I wanted to give you more. I’m constantly ripping cute ads out of magazines and holding on to them for inspiration. So I thought I’d share a few more ideas for you!

spring what to wear

Posted on May 7, 2010

Well, this has been on my ‘to do’ list since…oohh….I don’t know…January-ish? Which is why it is the Spring What to Wear guide…even though its May. Sigh…

Anyway, its finally up and that’s all that matters. Probably one of the most frequently asked question from clients is “what should we wear?!” Here ya go! Here are some great examples of beautifully coordinated outfits. I want my sessions to capture the essence of your family. And I know there is SO much more to you than kakhis and white button downs! It’s a great idea to bring 2 sets of outfits to your session. One can be more dressy, and the other one can be more comfy/casual.

So…right behind comfort comes the next most important factor in your session wardrobe ~ layers!! Layer layer layer! Layers add so much fun and oomph to an outfit! This also lets us change up the look of your family/kiddos quickly by just adding or removing a layer. Layers can be jackets, vests, ties, hats, leggings, fun funky jewelry, etc.) Layering also lets you add lots of texture and interest to your clothing! And that always makes for a good photo :) .

Another thing I encourage is COLOR! Don’t shy away from it! Color adds so much interest and fun to your photos! Notice how the images below have a color “theme”…everything goes together, but they’re not all the same shade of red tshirts/polos/button downs.

The final touch needs to be something that screams YOU! Something fun and interesting. Think cool shoes, boots, sunglasses, hats, or a fun tshirt under a jacket.

Now, I do want to add that there is  a way to choose white as your main color, and not look like something out of awkward family photos. You just need to make sure you add another color to make things pop. For isntance, if you’ve got mom and little sister in cute summery white dresses, add some fun turqois jewelry or shoes!

First of all, I’d like to introduce you to this handsome guy. Meet Andy. Andy took me for a crazy ride on Friday. We set out to do his senior pictures ~ over the river and through the woods (quite literally). But I loved it! The farm we went out to had the coooolest old barns and creeks…excuse me…cricks, I believe? :) I’m still getting used to the lingo around here! Anyway…we were out and about enjoying the insanely windy day, exploring the land. I found an amazing barn wall that I just HAD to set Andy and his girlfriend in front of! For the photogs out there reading this ~ I’m pretty sure it was Holy Grail material. The coolest shade of red, gorgeous thick, twisty vines growing all over the wall, worn down just enough to look rough, but still soooo pretty. So Andy, being the gentleman he is, went first stomping down the tall grass and checking for snakes.

I’m going to stop right there and thank Andy again for going first here because they might have been hauling an ambulance over the river and through the woods to pick me up if I had gone first.

So there Andy is, stomping down the grass for us. And then we saw it. A massive brown animal flipping out (because Andy had just stepped on it!)…it was a turkey folks. A real, HUGE, ticked off turkey. That thing flew up in our faces and out of there faster than I could even think about what was going on. We jumped, we screamed, we ran away as fast as possible. I’m pretty sure I was crying.

The rest of our entourage was hanging out on the other side of the barn and only saw the bird fly and heard the screams. They might have taken a breath between the hysterical laughs to ask if we were okay ;) . But I’m not sure.

For real…A TURKEY!!! Does anyone know how big those things actually are?! Totally different from what’s sitting on my table at Thanksgiving. Here it is 2 days later and I still cannot get over it! Definitely the most exciting thing to happen to me at a session :) .

And while we’re talking about exciting things happening. There’s a group of little punks who took out a good chunk of the mail boxes here in good old Germantown Hills last night. Can someone explain to me how that’s fun? We spent a good portion of the morning collecting bits and pieces of our old mail box, shopping for a new one and putting it in. While it made for some great neighborhood bonding…its so not cool.
